Vuth Lyno IN CONVERSATION with Khvay Samnang
THURSDAY 27 SEPTEMBER 2012 6:30-7:30PM
KHMER + ENGLISH

Please join us in the sand for an evening of conversation with exhibiting artist Khvay Samnang initiated by artist and curator Vuth Lyno. Vuth will question the inspirations and processes behind Khvay's current work Newspaper Man, especially in reference to Khvay's thinking around the archive, mass media, and the notion of community work and participation. The conversation is held in Khmer with English translation and is open to audience engagement.

Khvay Samnang (b. 1982, Svay Rieng) engages with concepts of mediation, change and continuity. Using his body to enact poignant gestures with subtle humor, he offers new interpretations of history, longstanding cultural practices, and contentious current affairs. Khvay holds a BA in Painting (Royal University of Fine Arts, Phnom Penh, 2006). He is a founding member of the artist collective Stiev Selapak and the spaces Sa Sa Art Projects and SA SA BASSAC. Vuth Lyno (b. 1982, Phnom Penh) is Artistic Director of Sa Sa Art Projects, an experimental artist-run space founded by Cambodian art collective Stiev Selapak. Recent SSAP projects include The Sounding Room (2011) and White Night (2012). He is the Visual Art Curator for 2012 Cambodian Youth Arts Festival in Phnom Penh. As an artist, Vuth works mainly in photography and sound and often takes a participatory approach, engaging specific Cambodian communities and the cultures unique to them. His 2012 group exhibitions include Riverscapes IN FLUX (Hanoi, Saigon, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Jakarta, Manila) and at ROUNDTABLE Gwangju Biennale, Tobias Rehberger Pavilion, 'You Owe Me. I Don't Owe You Nothin'.
